In the context of the protocollo di Intesa stipulated between MIUR and the National Federation of the Orders of Surgeons and Dentists (FNOMCeO), the SimAv hosts the laboratory activities for the Scientific High School Enrico Fermi of Genoa for the current school year, to guide students pursuing further studies in the medical and chemical-biological fields. The Center hosts the Genoese high school for the third consecutive year.
The "Biology with a Biomedical Focus" orientation program lasts three years for a total of 150 hours, with an annual total of 50 hours for each class in the three-year program. The acquired skills are assessed through ongoing case studies and laboratory activities. The goal of the project is to help students decide whether or not a medical career is the right choice, through both classroom and hands-on lessons.
Fermi is among 20 Italian high schools that participated in the pilot test for the 2017-2018 school year. The experience at SimAv was particularly appreciated, as Headmaster Lattarulo commented in the interview to the magazine Genova Medica: "The classes had the opportunity to observe the various simulators and complete laboratory activities aimed at acquiring specific "practical" skills. For the students, being actively involved in activities such as resuscitation and cardiac massage, practical suturing tests, airway intubation, and postpartum newborn care was important and of great educational value. The students' positive reactions demonstrate, once again, the effectiveness of an educational approach based on Learning by Doing."
This year, the event will be held again at the simulation center. Once it concludes, we will publish an article with photos documenting this wonderful initiative.
