SESAM Project (Sistema di E-learning per una SAnità migliore in Madagascar)

The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the training of students at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Antsiaranana through the use of interactive e-learning modules and medical simulation. Specifically, a local, autonomous e-learning system based on open-source platforms will be developed; hospital technicians will be trained in its use and the development of new content. The project will also provide the main components and their implementation. The system is designed for simulation training of doctors and nurses in healthcare procedures.

Overall, the project intends to make available and maximize local students' access to educational tools (including specialized courses made available free of charge by universities and research centers) for theoretical and practical training across a broad spectrum of medical and nursing disciplines (e.g., from medical semiotics and clinical methodology, to traditional surgery and the use of the internet in medicine).

The project will last three years (starting October 2024) and is divided into the following phases: Supply of IT and technical equipment (servers, PCs, video recording systems, simulation mannequins) - Training of Malagasy technical and medical staff in Genoa - Local assistance in Diego Suarez and remote assistance from Genoa for system startup and validation.

The following are involved in the project: various Rotary Clubs in District 2032 (20), District 2080 (4), Rotary Club Milano Duomo, Rotaract Club Genova, Rotary Club Nosy Be, Polyclinique NEXT Diego Suarez Hospital, University of Antsiranana, and the University of Genoa. The project is co-financed by Rotary International as  'Global Grant' project.
